Product Development Coordinator

Field Grey is an established business specialising in the design of bespoke uniform solutions for well-known high end clients. We’re looking for a Product Development Coordinator to join our expanding team in Highbury, London.
Section 1: Purpose of the roleTo support the Creative Director in the design, development and delivery of effective uniform solutions. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to manage commercial constraints; will be confident to negotiate costs. Previous industry experience is essential for success in this role, as is a “can do” attitude.

Section 2: Key responsibilities

General overview

  • Assisting the designers and technical team with development of all new product styles this includes sourcing, construction, sizing & factory liaison
  • Executing the development process in a timely manner for all products and issuing factories with accurate and clear information as well as target prices
  • Excellent knowledge of fabrics, trims, print design and accessories as per customer specifications, able to negotiate and liaise with suppliers
  • Sourcing Fabrics & Trims with Creative Director including trip to fabric fairs & PV
  • Communicate with factories to ensure minimum lead times are met and quality standards adhered to, Monitor samples and flag up any delays or queries
  • Good grasp of specs, (Particularly BOM/Sizing & QC) garment construction and knowledge of factory process
  • Ensure the product is in line with the companies target margin and expected retail price without compromising the brands quality standards
  • With Production giving clear instructions to the factories and ensure the samples are made to specifications
  • With Production & Creative Director manage critical path from initial concept through to bulk samples


  • Support the Production/CD with day to day duties
  • Assisting in fit sessions
  • Ensure data integrity codes and prices
  • Work closely with design and marketing
  • Experience in garment development
  • Oversees travel
  • Daily contact with overseas factories via email and telephone to develop and deliver prototypes and samples in line with strict critical path and commercial business requirements
  • Manage timeline strictly to ensure the samples are delivered on time
  • Manage weekly WIPS with team
  • Manage samples/tagging/fabric library/pattern library and logging with Juniors & Assistants
  • Creating tech packs and liaise with Design/PM on fit and grading, with PM feedback to suppliers
  • Liaise with fabric buyer/PM to ensure all fabric test reports are completed
  • Oversee the sample sealing process ensuring Critical Path is maintained
  • (With Technical) To be an information centre for all product development details
  • To manage and meet deadlines for products planned by Creative Director
  • Organizing wearer trials, and fittings with Design & Production and monitoring feedback/notes

Project management and admin

  • Setting up and maintaining detailed records of all project stages
  • Updating critical path and maintaining department excel spreadsheets
  • Progress chasing orders
  • Responding to client queries and demands
  • Co coordinating packing list approval and logistics


  • Contributing to design presentations and inspiration boards, and organising proposals and pitches
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills

Marketing and Business Development

  • Contributing to sales calls, pitches and presentations
  • Customer care
  • Conduct market and on line research for current and future trends
  • Contribution to blog/website and social media

Section 4: About you

You must have formal design training, and be eager to apply that in a commercial environment.

Essential attributes include

  • Degree education with experience in the field
  • At least two years’ experience in design and garment production
  • Works well under pressure
  • Passionate about garments and their details
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, be great at client and supplier liaison
  • Advanced level user of relevant adobe software including: In-design, Photoshop, illustrator, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Passionate interest in the value of design, particularly applied to everyday practical problems
  • Fast, reliable, accurate
  • Excellent verbal and written English
