They’re the first faces you see when you arrive at Fulham Pier – steady, welcoming and wrapped up against the riverside breeze. They certainly look the part in beautiful bespoke Field Grey wool coats, made in London and finished with flat caps in the same fabric. We spent a few minutes with three of the team to learn a little more about the people behind the doors.
Michal, the familiar Fulham face
Although he only officially joined Fulham Pier this year, 42-year-old Michal is hardly new to Fulham. Originally from Poland, he’s lived in London since 2005 and has worked with the wider Fulham organisation for well over 15 years, taking on roles across various sites.
He loves the new coat – “very comfy”. Though he won’t need it for long this winter as he’s headed home for a seven-week break that will include skiing and much-needed rest: “We’re working all day, all year.”
Festive food? Michal prefers something lighter: Vietnamese and Thai dishes. And his drink of choice? “Too many Red Bulls,” he laughs.
Paul, the sportsman
At 43, Essex born-and-bred Paul is one of Fulham Pier’s newest recruits, having joined five months ago.
“It’s really nice… everyone’s friendly,” he tells us. He’s a fan of the uniform, too: “It works well, it looks nice… keeps you warm. Lovely.” When he’s not on the door, Paul’s on the pitch, playing both rugby and football.
Stan, the Chelsea supporter
Originally from Bulgaria, 36-year-old Stan has been in London for 16 years and at Fulham Pier for the past seven months. What keeps the job interesting for him is the variety: “Every day is different. You meet new people.”
He describes the uniform as smart and comfortable – exactly what you want when you’re representing a venue as busy as Fulham Pier. Outside of work, football is his passion. And his team? Chelsea. “I have to be honest,” he says with a smile. We forgave him.
