We recently partnered with iconic fish and chips purveyors Harry Ramsden’s to support their relaunch inspired by the company’s 1920s heritage. Drawing on archival images of Harry Ramsden himself and early staff uniforms from the 1930s, Field Grey designed<\/a> a bespoke look featuring waistcoat-style aprons and a custom-dyed red knitted tie \u2013 subtle, refined details that nod to Harry Ramsden\u2019s<\/a> retro roots without veering into nostalgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To mark the occasion, Harry Ramsden’s hosted a special event at their newly reopened Bournemouth branch. Crowds lined the promenade for 7p fish and chips \u2013 the same price charged back in 1928 \u2013 marking a return to the golden age of the great British seaside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside, the inviting new interiors nod to the elegance of the original Guiseley restaurant. And the new menu boasts nostalgic classics such as the return of beef dripping fish and chips. We were proud to see our new uniforms in action, bringing a touch of sophistication to the buzz of a modern seaside chippy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While we were there, we chatted to the team to hear their thoughts on the new restaurant and \u2013 and, of course, the new Field Grey uniforms. And if you\u2019re planning a visit to Harry Ramsden’s this summer, don\u2019t miss their menu recommendations (spoiler: the curry sauce comes highly rated).<\/p>\n\n\n

Pankaj, 28, front of house and desserts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Originally from India, Pankaj lived in Spain for 10 years before moving to Bournemouth to be with his wife \u2013 who also works at Harry\u2019s! Now part of the front-of-house team, he helps run food and lends a hand with desserts. He\u2019s a fan of the new look, telling us: \u201cI think the refurb looks brilliant, especially the white shirts and aprons.\u201d As for what to order? \u201cI\u2019d recommend the tiramisu or the bread and butter pudding with custard. And the new vanilla and double chocolate ice cream \u2013 it\u2019s delicious!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Anoir, front of house<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

London-born Anoir is loving the challenge of his first waiting job. \u201dI used to be a barista, but this is on another level,\u2018\u2019 he says. Currently studying Business Management at uni, he appreciates the polished new look: “I think the new uniforms make us look a lot smarter and more professional.\u2018\u2019 His top pick from the menu? “I can never pronounce it \u2013 chicken schnitzel? It’s honestly amazing.\u201d As for his go-to chippy order? \u2018\u2019I usually go curry sauce over regular cod.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Jay, 21, bar staff<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jay moved to Bournemouth to study Marketing at uni and joined the team at Harry\u2019s around four months ago. \u201dI really enjoy it \u2013 the bar\u2019s fast-paced, and it’s the part that makes someone have a lovely day.\u201d He’s a fan of the new uniforms, too, with their nod to Harry’s heritage: \u201dIt’s taking it back to where it all started. And now it’s warmer, the white shirts are helping!\u201d Another curry sauce loyalist, he adds mushy peas to his FnC order for good measure.

Enya, 21, shift manager<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Enya moved to Bournemouth six months ago to live with her partner and hasn\u2019t looked back. \u201cI love being by the beach,\u201d she says. Now a shift manager at Harry\u2019s, she hit the ground running: \u201cI was thrown in at the deep end, but I really enjoy being busy!\u201d She says the relaunch is \u201camazing\u201d and loves the new menu. \u201cI tell everyone to try the beetroot cured salmon starter. It’s so good.\u201d So where does she sit on the curry sauce \/ mushy peas debate? \u201dI’m not a mushy peas girl, but I am a curry sauce girl.\u201d Well, that’s settled. When she gets a quiet moment, Enya can be found \u201dcrocheting little teddies!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Hema, 23, front of house<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Originally from India, Hema has been in the UK for 18 months, studying for a Master\u2019s in Fine Art and planning to start a PhD next year. \u201cFor now I\u2019m working, saving and enjoying life in Bournemouth,\u201d she says. Harry\u2019s is her first job in the UK: \u201cIt\u2019s got a special place in my heart.\u201d She loves the new uniforms \u2013 \u201cThey look so professional and give you a bit of extra confidence\u201d \u2013 and as a vegetarian, recommends the halloumi bites, truffle Parmesan fries and, of course, the curry sauce. When she\u2019s not at work, you\u2019ll likely find her painting, sketching or singing.<\/p>\n\n\n

Ninad, 26, kitchen staff<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ninad recently graduated from a Master\u2019s in Filmmaking and Cinematography and has been at Harry\u2019s for the past year. \u201dI’m always in the kitchen and I love it. We have a lot of fun in there behind the scenes.\u201d He says the new uniform \u201dmakes me look a bit classy and feel more confident,\u201d and for his menu pick \u2013 “Schnitzel and curry sauce!\u201d Outside of work, Ninad is passionate about cinema, photography, reading and anime. <\/p>\n\n\n

Esha, 20, front of house<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Born and raised in Bournemouth, Esha is studying Pharmacy in London but comes back to work at Harry\u2019s every summer. \u201cI love the busy vibe and chatting with customers,\u201d she says. The new uniforms get a big thumbs-up: \u201cThe trousers are really comfortable and the red and black works really well with the interiors theme.\u201d Menu favourites so far include the beef brisket and haddock with \u2013 you guessed it \u2013 curry sauce. And the best part of the job? \u201cFinishing a shift and heading straight to the beach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
